Why surf with a tourniquet?

Fin cuts. Razor-sharp reef. Surfboards flying around. Shark attacks. Rock sandwiches. Surfers are at risk of getting cut open in the water. Although it's rare, you need to act fast when you find yourself bleeding out in the line-up. Real fast.

Surfing with a tourniquet will save you much needed time when you (or someone else) is hurt. You can bleed to death in just a few minutes.

Bringing a tourniquet into the line up will save valuable time. You don't have to paddle back to shore to get help; you can deal with it immediately. Just whip out your tourniquet in the line up and stop the bleed before you paddle/swim back to shore.

How to use the SWAT-Tourniquet?

The name SWAT is basically the instruction manual as well, it stands for:

Stretch, Wrap, and Tuck. That's all there is to it.

1) Unpack the SWAT tourniquet from the wrapping

2) Look for the printed instructions; it will show you diamonds and triangles.

3) Wrap it above the wound, between the injury and the heart.

4) After the first wrap, pull the next wraps enough so that the triangles become squares, showing you've applied enough pressure.

5) Repeat wrapping like this.

6) On the last wrap, hold the tourniquet up a little bit so that you can tuck the very end of the tourniquet under itself.

The tourniquet will grip onto itself, even if it’s wet, bloody, or in the dirt.

The benefits of surfing with a tourniquet:

Self-rescue.

You can use it by yourself, save your own life. (Or someone else's.)

Saves time saves lives

Stop the bleeding immediately while you are still in the water. No time lost = higher survival rate.

Multiple Uses

Who Uses the SWAT-T?

SWAT stands for Stretch, Wrap, and Tuck, but the name also covers the communities for whom it's developed: Special Weapons and Tactics teams.

These teams (military and civilian) operate in an environment with a high incidence of penetrating trauma, and most (two-thirds) of preventable deaths in the operational environment are from extremity bleeding.

In other words, this product is bad-ass and hard-core and used by die-hard surfers. Need proof? This product is also discussed during the Big Wave Risk Assessment group because elite big wave surfers like Greg Long use these as well.
